DRISHTI DIDI?
With an aim to create access to primary eye care in rural India, we recruit ‘women eye marshals’, aka Drishti Didi, from within the villages. Most of these are women who have never ventured out of their homes to work and earn.
We train these women in conducting a 4-step preliminary eye test.
Drishti Didis visit each house in their respective village, meets all the family members (including children and senior citizens), informs them about the importance of getting their eyes tested, conducts the 4-step eye test on all of them, and collects suggested data.
They then send the data on vision status to the central team.
Basis this data, a team of Optoms and patient coordinators is sent to the villages once in 2 months for a detailed eye screening, and prescription of glasses.
We started this project in April 2023, with 5 Drishti Didis
Currently, we are working with 500+ Drishti didis in 5 states in 490 villages.
So far we have screened more than 3,50,000 villages, and distributed 10000+ free prescription glasses till August 2024.
